Peru has released two different numbers for total COVID-19 deaths today. The tracker and infographic show 199,006 deaths, while the press release states 199,066 deaths. (Source: www.gob.pe ) Based on the current trends, we expect the numbers on the official government tracker to be correct, hence we will ignore the press release number.

Two days ago Peru announced that (using new criteria) they found over 100,000 new COVID-19 deaths which had previously not been reported as such. Today Peru has also included this recalculated number of deaths in its official tally. More information: larepublica.pe

Peru finally releases the number of deaths reported on September 19, which were not published because of server maintenance. The number of deaths that occured on 19 Sep is: 186 deaths. We have recalculated the death data of September 19 up to September 23 to correct for this backlog! Source: www.gob.pe

Peru has today added 3688 new deaths in backlog. This means that on top of these 3688 earlier deceased, there were 188 new deaths reported for July 22. Source: www.gob.pe

At a quick glance it might seem like Peru is doing better, as they are reporting fewer new cases. However the fewer new cases in Peru is related to significant less testing. In fact the positivity rate is still rising in Peru.
